1. About HypeData

HypeData ("HypeData", "we", "us", "our") is a digital services product that lets users in Nigeria buy airtime, purchase mobile data bundles, and pay for supported bill services such as cable TV subscriptions and electricity tokens, using a prepaid wallet inside the app.

HypeData is currently operated as a startup product. We do not claim any company registration, licence or regulatory approval that we do not hold. If and when a registered legal entity is established, this policy will be updated with that entity's details.

This policy explains what information HypeData collects, why we collect it, how it is used and stored, and the choices you have. It applies to the HypeData website and the HypeData mobile application.

2. Information we collect

We only collect information the app actually needs to work:

  • Account information — your full name, email address, username and password credentials handled by our authentication provider. Used to create and secure your account and to sign you in.
  • Phone number — provided at sign-up and whenever you enter a number for an airtime or data purchase. Used to deliver the service you paid for and for support.
  • Transaction information — the services you buy, amounts, network or biller, transaction references, provider references and status. Used to process orders, issue receipts, resolve disputes and process refunds for failed transactions.
  • Wallet information — your wallet balance, funding records and a ledger of credits and debits. Used to keep an accurate financial record of your account.
  • Payment information — funding is processed by our payment processor. We receive confirmation data such as the amount, reference and status. We do not store your full card details on HypeData systems.
  • Bill service details you supply — for example an electricity meter number and meter type, or a cable TV smartcard/IUC number, plus the customer name returned by the biller during verification. Used solely to validate and complete that purchase.
  • Security information — a transaction PIN stored only in hashed form, one-time codes used for PIN recovery, and, if you enable it, a device biometric credential reference held on your own device.
  • Technical information — IP address, device and browser information, timestamps and error/diagnostic logs. Used to operate, secure and troubleshoot the service and to detect fraud or abuse.

We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and HypeData is not intended for children.

3. How we use your information

  • To create, authenticate and secure your account.
  • To process wallet funding, purchases, refunds and reversals.
  • To send transaction results, receipts and account notifications.
  • To verify meter, smartcard and phone details before a purchase is submitted.
  • To investigate failed, pending or disputed transactions with the relevant provider.
  • To detect, prevent and respond to fraud, abuse and security incidents.
  • To maintain accurate financial records and improve the service.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

4. Third-party service providers

To deliver the service, limited information is shared with the providers that actually process your requests:

  • Payment processing — Paystack processes wallet funding payments. Payment details you enter during checkout are handled by Paystack under their own privacy policy.
  • Bill payment processing — Pairgate is used to verify and process cable TV and electricity purchases. The meter/smartcard number, amount and biller are shared with them to complete the transaction.
  • Airtime and data delivery — the phone number, network and bundle are shared with our upstream telecom/VTU provider so the top-up can be delivered.
  • Infrastructure, authentication, database and email — hosting, authentication and database services used to run HypeData, and email delivery used for account and security messages.

These providers receive only the information necessary for their specific function. We may also disclose information where we are required to do so by law or by a valid request from a competent authority.

5. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information: traffic is served over HTTPS, transaction PINs are stored hashed rather than in plain text, database access is restricted by row-level access rules so users can only read their own records, provider credentials are held as server-side secrets and never exposed to the app, incoming payment webhooks are signature-verified, and wallet debits and credits are recorded in an auditable ledger.

No online service can be guaranteed to be completely secure. We do not promise absolute security, and you are responsible for keeping your password, transaction PIN and device secure.

6. Data retention

Account and profile information is retained while your account is active. Transaction, wallet and ledger records are retained after a transaction completes because they are financial records needed for reconciliation, dispute resolution, fraud prevention and any applicable legal or tax requirements. Technical and security logs are kept only for as long as they are useful for operating and securing the service.

When information is no longer needed for these purposes, it is deleted or anonymised.

7. Account and data deletion

HypeData does not currently offer a one-tap in-app account deletion button. To request deletion of your account and personal data, contact us by WhatsApp or email using the details in the Contact section, from the email address registered on the account.

Before deletion we will ask you to withdraw or use any remaining wallet balance, and to allow any pending transaction to settle. Once processed, your profile and personal details are removed. Transaction and ledger records may be retained in a minimised form where we need them as financial records, as described in the retention section.

8. Your privacy rights

You can:

  • Access the personal information on your account and view your transaction history.
  • Correct your name, username, phone number and other profile details in the app.
  • Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request deletion of your account and personal data, as described above.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing, where the law allows.
  • Withdraw consent for optional features, such as turning off biometric sign-in.

These rights are exercised under the Nigeria Data Protection Act. To make a request, contact us using the details below and we will respond within a reasonable time.

9. Cookies and local storage

HypeData does not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. We use your browser or device storage only for functional purposes: keeping you signed in (your authentication session), remembering your light/dark theme choice, remembering the last account used on the sign-in screen, and storing a reference for biometric sign-in if you enable it. Payment pages hosted by our payment processor may set their own cookies under their policy.

Clearing your browser or app storage will sign you out and reset these preferences.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service changes. The "Last updated" date at the top will always reflect the current version, and material changes will be communicated in the app.
